ISO Certification – the process by which an individual or organisation obtains a status or recognition when it meets a particular set of standards set out for the specific industries. The most famous certification for organisations is the ISO certification. This is the globally recognised certification that is commonly agreed upon by many countries in the world.
The need for a common standard
Since the world is divided by many barriers including language, currency and literally the seven seas, there comes a need to have a common unified standard that would make sure that the quality of the products and services offered by the various companies in each country would meet at least the basic, minimum set of requirements.

In this era of globalisation and liberalisation, almost all countries have begun participating in import and export functionalities. This means that the products and services cannot be designed for only one country and need to have the requirements of the other countries in mind too. There must be uniformity in the way the products are offered to make sure there are no hard points. A uniform standard like the ISO would help in the company gaining global recognition.

While the ISO 9001:2015 is the most common, most widely accepted standard, it just outlines the generalised basic requirements. There are other requirements in many other industries that are specific to the needs of the particular industry. There are many varieties like ISO 12485, 14001, 17025, 20000, 22000, 50001 certification.
